About Pixel Vault
Pixel Vault is an independent publication about retro and indie games. We started it for a simple reason: most gaming coverage chases whatever is newest and loudest, and the games we love most rarely fit that mold. A 1994 SNES RPG and a two-person indie project released last month have more in common with each other than either has with a blockbuster marketing cycle — and both deserve thoughtful writing.
What we cover
- Retro gaming — hidden gems, console collecting, emulation, and revisiting classics with modern eyes.
- Indie games — reviews, recommendations and rankings across genres, with a soft spot for metroidvanias, roguelikes and pixel art.
- Guides — practical, tested walkthroughs and technique breakdowns for the games we cover.
- Explainers — genre history, terminology, and the occasional deep dive into how these games actually work.
How we write
Everything on this site is written by people who play the games they write about — guides are tested, rankings are argued over, and we do not publish anything we would not want to read ourselves. We are not affiliated with any publisher or developer, and we do not accept payment for coverage.
Advertising
Pixel Vault is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Ads keep the site free to read; they never influence what we cover or what we say about it. You can read more about how advertising works on this site in our privacy policy.
